    You are a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States.
    You have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
    You are the child of a single parent, or are a single parent yourself
    You will be attending an accredited 4-year college/university or a 2-year community college for Fall 2018.
    A current transcript MUST be submitted for consideration.
    You must submit a 500-word essay explaining how living in a single-parent household has affected your life

    FASNY Volunteer Scholarship Program

    25 $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors entering college.
    Applicants must:
    1) Be in good standing with FASNY or have a legal parent/guardian who is a member.
    2) Attend high school as a senior who is enrolled in the fall 2018 school year at an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning or an accredited technical post-secondary school.
    3) Serve as a current Junior Firefighter, Explorer Scout, or RAM in a group affiliated with a volunteer department; a volunteer firefighter; or a volunteer with an EMS unit.
    4) Demonstrate a commitment to both volunteer emergency service and the community.

    Requirements:
    a) A resume
    b) Two letters of recommendation (one from a community leader and one from a high school official)
    c) A one-page essay written on the subject "How My Community Involved in the Fire Service has Affected My Life."
    d) A complete description of extracurricular activites (any supporting materials such as newspaper articles may be included as well)
